A Piece of California HistoryA Living Community Center

You’re looking at what was once Port Costa’s town school, bustling with children’s voices in the early 1900s when this small waterfront town was a thriving grain-shipping port and a key rail hub connecting the Bay Area to the rest of the country. Today, the building has a new life as a community center, historical site, event space, and the home of the newly-formed Port Costa Museum – and we’re so glad you found us.

We are the Port Costa Conservation Society, the nonprofit organization which has care and custody of the Port Costa School and manages all its activities. We were able to save this lovely 1911 Classic Revival building from dilapidation and loss, and with the help of supporters and volunteers, are preserving and slowly renovating it to its original condition.

Although much of the interior is still unfinished, even in its current form, the school is an asset treasured by Port Costa residents, serving as a favorite gathering place both for the town and the wider region.

Its future depends on interest and support from people like you. Whether you’d like to visit, volunteer, become a member, attend an event, book the school for your own use, make a donation, or just learn more, we’d love for you to explore our site.

Welcome! And please let us know what you think.
